Detroit's industrial history once rendered the city as a center of technology and innovation. However, after the economic downfall of Detroit, industries began moving outwards, spanning the greater Metro-Detroit area, leaving entire neighborhoods abandoned and in disarray. Today, Detroit's condition displays the economic disparity and gentrification its minorities experience, which is reflected in the studio's concentrated site location: there are issues in circulation, water quality, vacancy levels, and standards of living. Neighborhoods are poorly managed compared to high-traffic areas and other public spaces.
This project aims to improve public and residential spaces through hybridization: architecture should aim to alleviate economic disparity and poor living conditions through inclusivity.
